Who's Leading Who?

An amusing, mind challenging game to show that it's not always easy to know who is in charge.

Topics:

Leadership, Guidance, Boredom Buster

Materials:

None

Duration:

Approximately 15 minutes

What you will do:

Ask for a volunteer to leave the room until called. Everyone else remain in their seats. (You can also sit in a circle if you have a small class. Then, someone is selected to be the leader. The class follows and does whatever the leader does. For example, the leader may pat the top of his or her head. The rest of the class will do the same. After about 10 seconds, the leader should do something else, such as clap his or her hands together, and the rest of the class must do the exact same thing. The object is for the volunteer to come back into the room, and try to guess who the leader is.

When the leader is discovered, that person then leaves the room, and the class picks someone else to be the leader to follow. This can be repeated until everyone has had a chance to be the volunteer, or until time permits.

Now, here is the strategy to make the game more interesting and challenging. The leader should try to change actions only while the volunteer is not looking at them. Also, the rest of the class should try to avoid looking at the leader to give him or her away. Instead, they should look around the room and watch what others are doing and follow suit. This will make it more difficult to discover the leader.

If the volunteer guesses wrong, everyone should say, "No!, Ha ha ha". This will help avoid simply saying everyones name or pointing to everyone in hopes to pick the right leader.

Application:
Many people in this world are in a leadership role. Sometimes these leaders do dumb things, sometimes they do evil things. Just because they are in a role of authority does not mean we should agree with everything they do, however they do deserve our respect, because it is commanded by God. See Hebrews 13:17a
