Background On James

The Book of James

The book of James emphasizes something vital to Christianity: faith must be alive and working. Such faith brings about spiritual maturity through service, unity, love and charity. James confronts believers who possess a dead faith to realize that a saving faith is a faith that is active and alive.

The book of James challenges Christians to “walk the walk” and not just “talk the talk” James 1:22-24

  • Written by James, the half brother of Jesus.
  • Written to the twelve tribes which were scattered abroad. James 1:1
  • James did not believe Jesus was the messiah until after the resurrection. John 7:5  & 1 Cor. 15:7
  • James became a leader in the early church and wrote this letter around 49 AD.
  • Jame's letter is very practical, filled with ideas on how to live out your faith
